Buzzing into Bug Week (Threes)

Our classroom was “buzzing” with excitement this week as we learned about insects and butterflies!

We had lots of art fun, making our own insect diagrams (to go along with learning about the parts of an insect) and learning about symmetry with butterflies. We even got to show our creativity by creating play dough insects! We did a lot of counting and number practice this week, including measuring the length of butterfly wings that we painted, counting bugs into a jar, and graphing insects. We also enjoyed an insect hunt and a beetle letter hunt around our room!

We continued our “made new” Bible theme this week with continuing to talk about how God changes our hearts and makes them more beautiful (just like a caterpillar to a butterfly) when we decide to follow Him.

We read several nonfiction books about the life cycle of a butterfly, the parts of an insect, and types of insects. We also enjoyed several fictional books, including our favorite of the week, There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly.We learned a new insect song, as well as a new butterfly song.

This week, see if your child can do the following...

1. Tell you what sound the letter B makes and two words that start with that sound. (We did a B is for butterfly and B is for bugs chart.)
2. Explain the life cycle of a butterfly.
3. Count to 25.
4. Tell you a fact about an insect (such as how many legs or how many parts it has).
5. Sing the butterfly song that we learned!

Painting is so fun!
