Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving! With our class not being able to meet next week, we had a lot to pack into this week! Mrs. Nicole and I were amazed at how well everyone did this week.... They have come so far and are truly becoming such amazing students! Thank you for all of your work with them at home. It is so much fun to see them grow and learn.

While the story was a bit confusing for everyone, we did discuss the first Thanksgiving in class. See if your child can remember the words "pilgrim" and "Native American." We also talked about WHO we are giving thanks to on Thanksgiving: God! I could tell all of our sweet friends already have thankful hearts. One student even shared that he was most thankful for God! So sweet. We enjoyed sharing our pictures and discussing all of the blessings we have.

With it being Thanksgiving, we of course had fun making turkeys, dancing like turkeys, singing about turkeys, and even eating a fun turkey snack (thanks to Kate)! As we learned about the letter T, we made a very cute letter T craft with our hand prints, painted stand-up turkeys with water color paint, and put feathers on our own turkeys. We also practiced counting with turkeys and sorting colors with turkeys!

To work on literacy this week, we read a wide variety of Thanksgiving books, including The Littlest Pilgrim, 1 Little, 2 Little, 3 Little Pilgrims; Thanks for Thanksgiving, and 10 Fat Turkeys. We also practiced the poem "5 Little Turkeys" multiple times using our turkey finger puppets. Each week, we try to give the students time to read independently (look at books) themselves. This is such an important piece of early literacy development!

We can't wait to see all of these little turkeys after Thanksgiving!

Here are some things to ask your child this week. See if they can remember...

1. How to make the letter T and what sound it makes.
2. How to write the numbers 2, 3, and 4.
3. Our Bible story (Naomi and Ruth).
4. How to help you read "5 Little Turkeys" using their finger puppet!
5. Our Bible verse of the month (Psalm 111:1).
6. The words "pilgrim" and "Native Americans."

*As a side not, just a reminder that I keep some type of artwork or work from each student every week to put in their portfolio, if you ever wonder why something doesn't come home!
