Community Helpers!

I truly cannot believe that my time is coming to an end this year with this amazing class. I have looked forward to each week and have enjoyed each and every day! What a blessing it has been to be able to teach such a smart, sweet, funny, and curious group of sweet kiddos!

We had such a fun week learning about what it means to be a community helper! We enjoyed a visit from a pharmacist and a fireman and also spent a day talking about dentists and dental health! See if your child can remember any information these visitors shared or any tips for keeping their teeth healthy!

We had lots of highlights this week! Getting to make our very own stethoscopes to wear was fun, as well as creating our town of buildings and sharing what we want to be when we grow up! We read books about lots of different community helpers, including firemen, police officers, farmers, chefs, and more! To go along with our theme, we practiced being chefs in our play dough kitchen, made our own community helper hats, and practiced our colors by coloring different community helper vehicles.

For dental health, we had all kinds of "tooth" fun! We talked about ways to keep our teeth healthy and strong! We read about visiting a dentist and discussed the importance of tooth brushing with a fun egg "enamel" science experiment. We were able to see firsthand how soda and sugar can stain our teeth.

This week, ask your child if they can...
1. Tell you some of the jobs in a community.
2. Tell you what sound C makes. (We acted like we were cutting with scissors when we made the C sound.)
3. Count to 20.
4. Find five gray items in your house. (We struggled with this color on the assessment.
5. Sort two different beginning sounds.

Valentine's Day!

We loved Valentine’s week in our class! This week we celebrated how much God loves us and how we can love each other. We hope that this is what these sweet friends remember from this week.

We also had tons of fun celebrating Valentine’s Day with our friends! We enjoyed letter matching with letter “broken hearts”, writing letters on Valentine cards, lacing hearts, tracing hearts, counting with candy hearts, and stringing heart noodles. We also had fun decorating the bags to collect our Valentines from our friends as well as a love bug with our names. You will have to look for these in the hall!

Our letter of the week this week was the letter V. V is for Valentine! We enjoyed reading the book Love, Ruby Valentine and several other Valentine's books. We are amazed at how much everyone’s letter and sound knowledge is improving. We are getting to be so good at matching sounds and finding letters in the books we read. Such a smart group! Our number knowledge and one-to-one correspondence is also improving greatly!

We hope that everyone had a great time at the party! A HUGE thank you to everyone who came to help and brought supplies! We truly could not do it without each of you! Seeing the smiles on each face brings us so much joy. Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!

This week, see if your child can...

1. Say our February Bible verse (Ephesians 3:18).
2. Write the numbers 8, 9, and 10.
3. Find the letter V in a book in your house.
4. Draw a heart, oval, square, circle, and triangle.
5. Count ten items in your house.

"I love you to pieces!"

Jumping on hearts!

We loved passing out our Valentines!
