Under the Sea!

We had a “whale” of a good time this week studying the ocean!

We enjoyed reading about and learning about many ocean animals this week, including dolphins, whales, sharks, fish, and octopuses! To go along with our theme, we did several fun ocean crafts. We made a paper bag jellyfish to practice our scissor skills, had fun stamping ocean scenes, painted water color ocean paintings, and even created beautiful Cheerio starfish! We also worked on our fine motor skills by lacing beads on octopus legs and trying to catch fish with our "Let's Go Fishing" game!

We definitely learned a lot working in our centers this week. We practiced measuring and counting using the Great White Shark that swam into our room! We practiced identifying the numbers 1-9 by "fishing" out fish from our pool and also used a variety of objects to measure how long the shark was. We focused on the letter O, doing a letter O activity sheet with little to no guidance! Everyone did amazing flipping over and then searching for letters with our fun pirate ship letter game. (This group is getting so very smart!) We continued to work on building and writing our names, which many of us are already almost mastering!

We also had a lot of fun with science this week! See if your child can remember what makes a shark float in the water! (We used oil, water, and shark balloons to discuss how the sharks oily liver helps them float.) We also made a trip over to Mrs. Laura's room to learn about how octopuses use their "ink" to help protect them... We watched a short video clip and then used food coloring and a toy octopus in a bucket of water to demonstrate this.

We moved on early to our March Bible focus: Follow Jesus! Our new verse is Matthew 4:19: "Come and follow me," Jesus said. We talked about a cool guy in the Bible named John the Baptist!

This week, see if your child can...

1. Help you find 10 letters they know on boxes in your kitchen.
2. Tell you why an octopus "inks".
3. Read the "Great White Shark" poem with you. (There were three finally added into poetry folders this week! Make sure to check them out!)
4. Write their name in some kind of sensory material (salt, sand, shaving cream).

5. Explain one fact about an animal we learned about!

We searched for whichever letter
we flipped over and covered it with a
fun ocean coin!

Fishing time and measuring!

O is for ocean!

Thank you, Mrs. Laura, for letting us have fun with your ocean animals!

Look who swam into our room!

Watching a real octopus video with Mrs.
Laura's class

Freddie had another fun adventure!

Could this group be any cuter?!

Fun with fish races! We practiced "stop" and "go" commands with our fish!

What helps a shark float?

Our scissor skills our improving greatly!

Fast as lightning!

We love our friends!
