Buzzing Through Insect Week! (Kinder Prep)

Our room was buzzing with excitement during insect week! We had a blast learning all about insects! On Monday, our focus was butterflies and their life cycle. We created the butterfly life cycle out of our fingerprints and hand prints, learned several fun songs, and practiced our color words with butterfly coloring. We also had time for independent reading with all kinds of awesome insect books from the library and learned about symmetry with butterfly wings! We even got to go on a bug hunt around our room!

On Tuesday, we discussed the parts of an insect. We learned two insect parts songs and created our own diagram of a bug! See if your child can remember one of our bug parts songs. We also had fun with the book There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly! as well as going on an insect yoga adventure! We worked on addition using our insect catching jars and measured our butterfly wingspans with counting cubes and bears. 

Wednesday was full of more fun, creating insect graphs and talking about different types of insects. To go along with our theme, we read the story Hermie the Common Caterpillar and discussed how we are a new and beautiful creation when we believe in Jesus. We continued to practice many skills, including ending sounds, color words, subtraction, addition, and counting by 2s to 20.

Bridge Class

We had a great time finishing our beautiful paintings in another painting class with Mrs. Rose this week. We extended our insect learning by talking about all kinds of insects, including ants, ladybugs, and walking sticks! We made bumblebees out of our handprints, as well as insect popsicle stick puppets. We continued to practice ending sounds, writing our letters, measuring, and counting. We also had some science fun with insect wings by talking about static electricity. The days fly by in Bridge!
