Even though we weren't together Friday, we had a great day together on Thursday!
We started out the day with making fun community helper hats. We sang a fun letter song about all kinds of different jobs that we could have when we grow up!
We spent most of Thursday focused on the work of a dentist and on dental health (fitting for dental health month in February). We looked at an X-ray of teeth to introduce letter Xx and then worked on our letter writing skills by writing on teeth and then brushing them clean! We also worked on our one-to-one correspondence by measuring toothbrushes and counting out teeth with a fun roll and cover game.
We have been trying to provide more dramatic play opportunities in our classroom as well. This is so important at this age for imagination building and social development. This week, we had a bakery and a doctor's office in our room. We also had a writing station with a mailbox to pretend to be mail carriers and the sensory bin set up to clean "teeth" as a dentist! We even got to pretend to be construction workers as we hammered letters and numbers!
We plan to do most of our other community helper activities we had planned for today next Thursday!
