To go along with the story The Mitten, we enjoyed doing a variety of "mitten" activities. We practiced our lacing skills by lacing mittens, practiced putting mittens in size order, saw how many animals we could fit inside our mittens, and drew pictures of what could fit inside our mittens (to be seen in portfolios)! We also reviewed letter M for mittens and introduced letter B. We were able to dot them with paint and match animals to these initial sounds. We also used mittens to help us with one-to-one counting. You could use the mitten paper we sent home to do another counting activity and work on the number 6!
We also enjoyed working on our painting skills this week by painting a hedgehog craft with forks! We made a cute umbrella independently to go along with the story The Umbrella. We even got to do a fun science experiment with our mittens to see if ice cubes melt faster in our bare hands or with a mitten on...Brrrr!!
Our Bible focus this month is on Jesus' miracles during his time on Earth. We did the story of Jesus casting the nets this week. We started working on our verse of the month: "With God, all things are possible!" (Matt. 19:26)
You might have noticed that we started "signing in" this week. Everyone did very well with this! We continue to work on our marker/pencil grip, and this would be a great time for you to start emphasizing this at home. We will be sending home name tracing cards next week!
This week, see if your child can...
1. Tell you the story of Jesus casting the nets.
2. Identify number 6 (this week's number).
3. Help you find three things in your house that start with the letter B.
4. Count to 20 with you.
5. Cut out the shape of a hat or mitten with scissors.
Fun with our animal masks!
Counting with stamps
Painting with forks was fun!
Teamwork!
Coloring our umbrellas
Look how smart we are sorting initial sounds!
