Snowflakes Falling!

Snow was in the air this week in our classroom!

Our inquisitive minds are growing each week! Our secret message that we uncovered this week told us that God made each of us unique (just like the snowflakes).

We also had fun talking about snowmen this week! Two of the books we read were Sneezy the Snowman and Snowmen All Year! We painted our own melted snowmen as well as built play dough snowmen! (A big thanks to my mom for bringing this fun snowman building activity to us!)

Our letter of the week was the letter I... I is for igloos and ice! We had fun using Legos to paint igloos and snow all on our own! We also focused on the number 8 and did a review of colors. I was able to complete assessments, which will be sent home next week. We are all so smart and learning so much!

Some of our other fun centers this week included rescuing animals stuck in ice with salt water droppers, beading snow flakes, decorating our own snowflakes, and building snowmen and snowflakes with pattern blocks. We even worked on our fine motor skills by using "snow shovels" (clothespins) to clean up the blizzard that hit our green room!

Our science experiment for the week was discussing why salt is used on the roads and sidewalks when there is snow or ice. We watched as salt melted a block of ice outside on our playground! Pretty cool!

We continued our January focus on the miracles of Jesus, this week on feeding the 5,000 with five loaves of bread and two fish. We are getting very good at our verse... "With God, all things are possible!"

Here are some things to ask your child this week... Can you...
1. Tell me the sound letter I makes?
2. Write an eight in the air and count eight objects? ("Make a snake. Go back up and make an 8.")
3. Tell me something special about how God made you?
4. Tell me two miracles Jesus did?
5. Draw a triangle, square, circle, rectangle, and oval?

I is for igloo! We are becoming very independent!

We try to do beading or lacing every week for great fine motor practice!

Snowman decorating :)

Our secret message...
"God made me unique!"

Rescuing animals with salt water

We loved playing with our "hot chocolate"
station!

They loved building their snowmen with Mrs. Shari!

Our ice cream sensory bin! Yum!

We got to go outside!

Working on our balance and coordination

We had fun cleaning up the blizzard!

This sweet girl did such a good job sharing!

Into the Arctic!

Brrr! Our room turned into the Arctic this week as we learned lots of fun facts about animals in the Arctic... penguins, polar bears, seals, walruses, moose, and more!

Our letter of focus for the week was the letter W...W is for winter! We enjoyed cutting and building our very own penguins (which can be found in the hall). We also had lots of fun doing penguin yoga, reading about polar bears, building our own igloos with marshmallows, and feeding number fish to the giant penguin who came to visit our room! We even got to learn about penguin feathers and how they repel water. Our science experiment of the week was testing out how blubber helps animals stay warm in the Arctic. While Crisco might not be blubber, it showed us how blubber can block the cold of ice water!

We worked on a variety of skills this week! What a smart bunch we are! Cutting with scissors independently has been a focus for January. We also continued to work on spelling and writing our names, as well as shape identification/sorting. We have begun to practice counting from 10 to 20. The teen numbers can sure be a little tricky, but we will conquer them! Our one-to-one correspondence has improved immensely, and our ability to identify shapes continues to improve.

Our Bible focus of the week was on Jesus healing the paralytic that was brought to him on a mat by his friends. How amazing this was! We were reminded that Jesus really can do ANYTHING!

Here are some things to ask your child this week! Can you....

1. Identify the letter W and its sound?

2. Write the numbers 6 and 7 in the air?
3. Build your name? Write your name? (We meant to send home their tracing cards for at home practice but forgot... We will get them home next week!)
4. Tell me three animals who live in the Arctic?
5. Identify a circle, triangle, square, and circle?

January tracing sample... So much improvement!

Our grip and letter writing is getting so much better!

Cutting the penguin hearts made for good scissor practice!

We sure loved drawing and writing inside our "bear cave" (tent)!

We loved experimenting with our light table.

"Feeding" fish to our penguin by counting out the number we rolled

We loved making marshmallow snow structures!

We kept these penguins as the January
coloring sample

Shape sorting with our penguin was a bit challenging!

We love table trading!

Free play is oh so valuable! Building problem solving skills, creativity,
and social skills...Just to name a few reasons!

We got in some great exercise in the green room this week!
We also went on a letter hunt!

Trying our hand in the blubber!

One of our bears escaped from the bear cave! We had to go on a bear hunt
to find him of course!
