Fall Leaves Fall!

We had another fun week in our class! This week, I was amazed at how great of friends everyone in our class is becoming! Each week, I see their interaction increase, their ability to play nicely grow, and their relationships with one another develop. As their teachers, Katie and I feel that this is so important and so very exciting to see.

We had a fun week learning about fall weather and how leaves change in the fall. We enjoyed reading several fall books about fall activities, weather, and the change in the leaves. We also enjoyed creating our own leaf man puppets and leaf wreaths. (The idea of gluing the leaves on the wreaths was a fail... A little bit too dry! Oh well!) We talked about how L is for Leaves and loved looking at all of the different leaves that we brought in from our yards!

We have been working on tracing our names with our fingers (and now markers) and sequencing the letters of our names, which we continued to work on this week with our name puzzles. These are a hit in our room! Creating "name puzzles" is also something that can be done at home!

To go along with our leaf theme, we also enjoyed sorting leaves by colors, sorting leaves with uppercase and lowercase letter Ls, and counting leaves. We are continuing to work on one-to-one correspondence (being able to point to and count individual objects accurately). This is definitely something that can easily be practiced at home counting socks, at the grocery counting apples and cans, and in the yard counting rocks! Another skill we worked on this week in our table trading was finishing color patterns. We definitely have some experts in our room when it comes to patterns! To practice our fine motor skills this week, we laced fall foam beads and pouch lids onto pipe cleaners, used dot markers with an "L is for Leaves" page, used our finger prints to stamp "leaves" on a tree, and made shapes using small pom-poms.

We started a new Bible verse for November: "I will give thanks to God with my whole heart!" (Psalm 111:1) Our first focus this week was on being thankful for the families that God gave us. We discussed the story of Ruth and Naomi.

As a side note, you may have noticed the Scholastic book order in your child's folder! If you are interested in ordering a book for your child, you can do so online or by simply bringing the form back to me by November 22! These can even be fun Christmas items! If you bring the form back in, checks can be made to Scholastic. Our class code is PMFTD

This week, see if your child can....

1. Read the story of Ruth and Naomi with you again.
2. Practice our Thanksgiving Bible verse.
3. Collect five leaves and put them in order from smallest to biggest.
4. Make a card for someone they love. (Review letter L for love.)
5. Put the letters of their name in order (with magnets, cut strips of paper, etc.)

Lacing fun!

Sorting Uppercase and Lowercase Ls and
leaves by color.

Fun trike-a-thon purchase! Magnets for
independent letter formation!

Leaf puppets!

Wow! Look how well we did at shadow matching!

Working on color patterns

We love these "Buddies in a Bag" bought with Trike-a-Thon money!

Shapes with pom-poms

Leaves are falling!

Stringing foam beads... Look at that focus!

Each day, we encourage independent
building with a different object.

We also practice tracing in some form each week...
So important for pre-writing skill development.

We are doing much better with our
Minds in Motion routine!

This sweet girl did such a great job sharing her "All About Me" box!!
