We learned so much this week in our class! Our focus this week was on how to keep our bodies healthy and strong. We really packed a lot into a few days. Mrs. Nicole and I had so much fun hearing the questions from the students and watching them learn this week! Some of our topics of discussion were healthy foods to eat, how to make our bones and muscles strong, exercise, organs inside our bodies (heart, lungs, stomach), how to stay free of germs, and the importance of sleep. I think we could have spent much longer on this topic!
One our fun activities this week was outlining our bodies and then putting on facial features and our heart, lungs, and stomach. This took MUCH longer than expected but was worth doing! Another highlight of our week was learning yoga from our own personal yoga instructor Mrs. Nicole!
We also talked about our bones and made an "X-ray" of our hands. One of our best learning moments this week was sorting food into which foods were healthy and which were unhealthy. Many had a look of astonishment when we told them that ice cream had to go in the "bad for our bodies" bucket! :) Some of our other activities included counting with fruit, doing number exercises, shaking maracas, and reading about our bodies. We laughed at the book Parts and had a "peak" inside our bodies with our skeleton man!
Our science experiment this week was a glitter germ experiment. We put lotion on everyone's hands and then sprinkled glitter (a.k.a. "germs") on their hands. We let them touch the table around them and discussed how washing our hands is so important (because just like the glitter, germs spread on everything we touch).
We continue to do our table trading at the end of the day to work on fine motor skills and number sense... Everyone is doing a much better job tracing lines. This is something you can easily practice at home and will help with writing so much in the next year. Many of our friends are also beginning to identify the numbers 1-5 with ease. The more you can count and write numbers with your child, the better!
See if your child can remember these things from this week:
