Eric Carle Week!

We are learning so much in our class! I am amazed at how much progress we have already made!

This week was Eric Carle week at LAP! We had fun reading a variety of books written and illustrated by this author, including The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Mixed-Up Chameleon, Little Cloud, and Brown Bear, Brown Bear.  To go along with these books, we enjoyed singing, making balloon paint caterpillars, using caterpillar puppets to retell our story, and creating cloud shapes! Everyone is doing a great job listening to our books and carefully creating their artwork. Make sure to look for your child's cloud artwork in the hallway!

We also continued to enjoy our table centers this week (specifically designed to work on fine motor skills and mathematics skills). Tracing was one of our skills of focus this week. Feel free to continue this skill at home with any materials of your choice! We practiced helping a hungry caterpillar "crawl" to his food by tracing different lines and kept our first tracing sample to put into our portfolios. These monthly tracing samples will allow you to see your child's progress with their pre-writing skills throughout the year! We also continued to work on identifying the numbers 1-3 and using one-to-one correspondence to count objects. Our centers also included fun work with craft sticks and pipe cleaner weaving!

This week, see if your child can...

1. Tell you about Noah and what he built. (Maybe read this story together again!)
2. Practice our Bible verse for September: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart."
3. Draw the letters M, F, E, and P in sand, salt, shaving cream, etc.
4. Sing "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" with you (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaDDsT9IAWc)
5. Hop and count to 10.

We had fun making bear patterns to go with "Brown Bear, Brown Bear".

Caterpillar painting was so much fun!

Such a hungry caterpillar!

We did a great job dotting the letter E!

These boys are already expert counters!

Such focus!

What a sweet smile!

We did a great job searching for the letter E!

Some neat clouds in the sky!

We sure love playing!

We kept our animal hospital out one more week because it was such a hit!

"Mrs. Rachel, I made a new friend!"
