Our letter of focus for the week was the letter W...W is for winter! We enjoyed painting snowy owls and making our very own penguins to take home. We also had lots of fun dancing like penguins, reading about polar bears, building our own igloos with marshmallows, and feeding number fish to the giant penguin who came to visit our room! We even got to learn about and draw Arctic animal tracks. Our science experiment of the week was testing out how blubber helps animals stay warm in the Arctic. While Crisco might not be blubber, it showed us how blubber can block the cold of ice water!
We worked on a variety of skills this week! What a smart bunch we are! Cutting with scissors in straight lines has been a focus for January. We also continued to do initial letter sorts with picture cards and worked on building our names. We have begun to practice counting from 10 to 20. The teen numbers can sure be a little tricky, but we will conquer them! Our one-to-one correspondence has improved immensely, and our ability to identify shapes continues to improve.
Our Bible focus of the week was on Jesus calming the storm. How amazing this was! We were reminded that Jesus really can do ANYTHING!
Here are some things to ask your child this week! Can you....
1. Identify the letter W and its sound?
2. Write the numbers 6 and 7 in the air?
3. Build your name? Write your name? (We sent home the glitter name cards we used last semester for tracing with our finger. Feel free to use those to cut apart for name building!)
4. Tell me three animals who live in the Arctic?
5. Count to 20?
Cutting streamers was a big hit!
