Fall Leaves Fall!

We had another fun week in our class! This week, I was amazed at how great of friends everyone in our class is becoming! Each week, I see their interaction increase, their ability to play nicely grow, and their relationships with one another develop. As their teachers, Nicole and I feel that this is so important and so very exciting to see.

We had a fun week learning about fall weather and how leaves change in the fall. We enjoyed reading the books Fall Leaves Fall, When the Leaf Blew In, and Leaves are Falling. We also enjoyed creating our own blowing leaf projects and our own leaf man puppets! We talked about how L is for Leaves and loved looking at all of the different leaves that we brought in from our yards!

We have been working on tracing our names with our fingers and sequencing the letters of our names, which we continued to work on this week with our animal name puzzles. These are a hit in our room! Creating "name puzzles" is also something that can be done at home! We also have enjoyed giving everyone more time to look at books independently in our class library. They are doing a great job with this!

To go along with our leaf them, we also enjoyed sorting leaves by colors, sorting leaves with uppercase and lowercase letter Ls, doing leaf rubbings, and counting leaves. We are continuing to work on one-to-one correspondence (being able to point to and count individual objects accurately). This is definitely something that can easily be practiced at home counting socks, at the grocery counting apples and cans, and in the yard counting rocks! Another skill we worked on this week in our table trading was finishing color patterns. We definitely have some experts in our room when it comes to patterns!

This week, see if your child can....

1. Tell you the story of Daniel in the lions' den! We talked about how God is always with us.
2. Practice our Thanksgiving Bible verse: "Always give thanks to God."
3. Collect five leaves and put them in order from smallest to biggest.
4. Make a card for someone they love. (Review letter L for love.)
5. Put the letters of their name in order (with magnets, cut strips of paper, etc.)

We worked hard creating our leaf puppets!

Making shape outlines with foam leaf beads!

Sorting is fun when we work together!

Wow! We are doing so well tracing!

Look at these good patterns!

Such hard workers!

We built our fine motor skills by lacing leaf beads on pipe cleaners!

Blowing leaves!

Sorting leaf colors!

L is for leaves!

We enjoyed working together to put together puzzles!

Stamping leaves!

We always love the green room!

This sweet girl enjoyed sharing
all the fun things in her All
About Me box!

Learning About Bones and Muscles

We learned so much this week in our class! Our focus was on how to keep our bodies healthy and strong. We really packed a lot into a few days. Mrs. Nicole and I had so much fun hearing the questions from the students and watching them learn this week! Some of our topics of discussion were healthy foods to eat, how to make our bones and muscles strong, exercise, organs inside our bodies (heart, lungs, stomach), using our five senses, and how to stay free of germs. I think we could have spent much longer on this topic!

One our fun activities this week was outlining our bodies and then putting on facial features and our heart, lungs, and stomach. Another highlight of our week was learning yoga from our own personal yoga instructor... Mrs. Nicole!

We also talked about our bones and had fun looking at our "skeleton man". One of our best learning moments this week was sorting food into which foods were healthy and which were unhealthy. Many had a look of astonishment when we told them that ice cream had to go in the "bad for our bodies" bucket! :) Some of our other activities included building sandwiches and tacos with felt food, talking about our five senses using gummy worms, counting with fruit, and doing number exercises. Our gummy worm activity included listening to, squishing/feeling, looking at, smelling, and (of course) tasting our worms to describe our senses. We laughed at the book Parts and enjoyed learning about exercise with the books Bearobics and Get Up and Go!

Our science experiment this week was a glitter germ experiment. We put glitter paint (aka "germs") on everyone's hands and let them look at how many germs can be stuck on our hands. We learned a new "Wash Your Hands" song and discussed how washing our hands is so important (because just like the glitter, germs spread on everything we touch).

We continue to do our table trading at the end of the day to work on fine motor skills and math skills... Everyone is doing great! Many of our friends are beginning to identify the numbers 1-5 with ease. The more you can count and write numbers with your child, the better! We also worked on sorting shapes this week, which is a great home activity as well!

See if your child can remember these things from this week:
  • What sound the letter H makes and what the letter looks like.
  • What foods make our bones strong.
  • 2 things we can do to keep our bodies healthy.
  • Our Bible story about Tabitha and how she was so kind to others.
  • Our Bible verse ("Always give thanks to God!")
  • Our "All of Me" song that is in their poetry folder.
We are experts at finding letters!

Everyone still loves our reading and science centers!

Putting on our body parts was quite exciting!

Such careful workers. :)

Sorting shapes takes a lot of focus!

We loved exploring our senses with gummy worms!

Teamwork!

We loved the felt food!

Germy hands!

Yoga with Mrs. Nicole!

Everyone was such a good listener for their friends
sharing their pumpkin creations!

We got a new music board outside with Trike-a-Thon money!

Happy birthday to this week's birthday boy!
